A simple explanation of how different kinds of DACs work.

The Power DAC

The USB Power DAC is a very high performance DAC with sound quality similar to the MSB Platinum DACs but with few user features. It runs for many hours on internal batteries and includes an external charger. It has no front panel controls, and no remote features other than volume control. A single digital input of each type, including a 192 kHz USB input is available with auto switching. It is not modular like the Platinum Line so cannot be upgraded.

So what does it do? It gives you great sound at a great price with all the performance you expect from an MSB product.

The heart of the USB Power DAC is the 2nd Generation Discrete MSB designed and built DACs. All other manufacturers use DAC on a chip like those from Crystal Semi or Burr Brown. MSB builds our own much higher performance descrete DAC. Separate power supplies are provided for each digital section with full battery operation. The outboard charger also powers the unit for continuous operation with complete electrical isolation.

The optional volume control is also of MSB design and sounds nothing like the typical digital volume controls. Our controls do not sacrifice digital resolution, even at low levels.
