MSB Audio Director
The award winning MSB Audio Director & Digitizer is both an automatic audio switcher and a high quality Analog to Digital converter. Have you ever wondered why you achieve better sound using the digital inputs on a receiver than you do using the analog inputs? Digital surround sound processors contain a low quality A-to-D converter which can be bypassed only by using the digital input.
The Audio Director provides eight line level and one phono stage analog audio inputs. Each has a proprietary sensing circuit to detect the presence of audio. The inputs are arranged in order of priority. The highest priority input that detects active audio will be automatically selected. The additional phono input is not auto-switching, but can be manually selected from the front panel. All analog sources can be converted to a high resolution, 24 bit digital audio signal. 24 bit audio has 256 times the resolution of the 16 bit audio found on many CDs. The sampling frequency can also be selected from the front panel, with frequencies up to 96K supported. This feature allows optimum matching to a variety of systems. Digital outputs are provided in three formats - coaxial, optical and balanced - allowing use with a processor, recorder or a multi-zone system. The Audio Director uses a Crystal CS5396, one of the finest professional A/D chips available. By employing a 7th order tri-level delta-sigma modulator followed by digital filtering and decimation, an unbelievable 115 dB signal-to-noise ratio is achieved. Just as a transport sets the jitter performance for the entire playback system, the A/D clock jitter during sampling defines the ultimate performance of a recording. We generate each clock frequency with separate high accuracy oscillators.
